Writing news
Did you know I have a new book out? I may have mentioned it… ;) Several book bloggers kindly hosted spotlights of After the Burning this week or shared their reviews. The feedback is brilliant so far! The book reached the top 500 of various dystopian categories on Amazon. If you have read it, or my other books We Watch You and They Lie Here, please remember to rate or review on Amazon, Goodreads and anywhere else you talk about books. For independent authors, this is super-important and very much appreciated.

The archive
Just over 3 years ago, I wrote about insects in books, music and film. I was surprised at how many I could think of! I illustrated the post with an Edward Lear drawing of either a man-sized fly dancing with a man, or a fly-sized man dancing with a fly.

The River by Rumer Godden, an author I’ve heard of but never tried before. This was a charity shop find and has a beautiful cover with a kingfisher on it.

I have been too busy to watch much lately, but have occasionally watched another episode of Brideshead Revisited (1981).

‘Heroes’ by David Bowie has been in my head even more than usual, as I’ve just finished reading We Can Be Heroes, a memoir by Paul Burston.
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading - see you next time!
